The Energy We Deserve

Overview

As governments and businesses transition to electric vehicles, our centuries-old electricity grid will struggle to keep up with the demand from these new energy consumers. ElectricFish is building and deploying battery-integrated EV chargers at gas stations to support the transportation sector’s transition to EVs without compromising the grid’s resilience. Our patented, grid-friendly technology uses software optimization to deliver ultrafast EV charging (up to 100 miles of range in 5 minutes) without requiring grid upgrades. It also provides backup power to utilities when they become overwhelmed. We’re a fast-growing, mission-oriented team currently preparing manufacturing prototypes.
Where You Come In

As a Mechatronics Engineer in Systems Design & Integration at ElectricFish, you will play a critical role in shaping the future of sustainable transportation. You’ll apply your expertise to develop and optimize innovative battery-integrated EV charging systems, working at the forefront of clean energy technology. Your contributions will directly impact the performance, reliability, and scalability of our products, enabling a seamless transition to electric mobility while enhancing grid resilience. If you’re passionate about engineering solutions that address global challenges and thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced environment, this is your opportunity to make a tangible difference.

Duties Include

  • Systems Design & Integration: Design and integrate components and systems in CAD to meet product and system-level requirements, optimizing for product attributes such as cost, mass, size, and performance. Lead product integration reviews, mediate trade-offs, and ensure alignment with customer expectations.
  • End-to-End Product Development: Own full product design responsibilities leveraging DFM and DFA principles from concept through production launch and ramp, including specification definition (dimensional, functional, performance, and manufacturing).
  • Prototyping & Testing: Support CAD virtual builds, physical prototyping, pre-series production, and advanced testing of electrical and thermal systems. Root-cause test failures and production issues, ensuring product reliability and performance.
  • CAD Management & Documentation: Manage top-level product CAD and BOM with best practices, ensure CAD completeness and compatibility, and meticulously release 2D parts and assembly drawings. Support the release process while adhering to engineering standards like GD&T and tolerance stack-up.
  • Innovation & Process Development: Drive product performance improvements, develop new technologies, and advance manufacturing processes. Collaborate on early process development to support innovation in product design including systems-level modeling and analysis.
  • Collaboration & Supplier Management: Work closely with cross-functional teams (manufacturing, testing, NPI, supply chain) and maintain active supplier relationships to ensure seamless project execution.
Core Qualifications

  • Education: Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or equivalent education.
  • Experience:
    • Hands-on experience with DFM and DFA design principles across AC and DC electrical distribution (low voltage and high voltage), bus bars, cooling systems, structures, materials, and power electronics used in EV fast charging.
    • Knowledge in various manufacturing processes, including plastic injection molding, sheet metal stamping, thermoforming, welding, plating, heat treating, and bonding for small-volume to scaled production. Parts as small as PCBs to large battery structures.
    • Strong background in product lifecycle management (PLM) and managing system and subsystem-level BOMs and engineering drawings from concept to production.
    • Expertise in battery energy storage and EV charging systems design, modeling, and analysis. Matlab/Simulink experience is a plus.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Outstanding CAD skills, particularly in 3D modeling and packaging; OnShape and Arena experience is a plus.
    • Expertise in defining and executing DVP&R, including part-level and system-level test plans, designing test setups, and analyzing data for AC electrical, DC electrical, and thermal systems.
    • Detail-oriented with strong knowledge of engineering standards such as GD&T (ASME Y14.5) and charging cable (CCS & NACS) standards. UL certification experience is a plus.
  • Soft Skills:
    • Exceptional problem-solving and communication abilities.
    • Flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
    • Strong passion for electric vehicles and energy.
    • A proactive attitude with a desire to take ownership of responsibilities and work within small teams on fast timelines.
